EEL inc.: A Devised Performance for On the Verge Festival
COMPANY OR GROUP: Royal Conservatoire of Scotland SHOW: EEL
DIRECTOR: The ensemble, with assistance from Eve Jamieson
For roughly five weeks, Katie Jackson, Ludwig Jurich and myself united around a common interest: creating fresh and compelling, interactive live theatre for Zoom during the pandemic. Our common interests and goals culminated in the story of a dystopian tech company founded by Helen Hargraves (Magdalen Vaughn), hell bent on conditioning heuristic thinking out of knowledge workers a capitalist system exactly like our own. Throughout the show Hargraves’ attempts to train her emotion-policing AI (the audience members) are consistently interrupted by Dr. Mcvey (Katie Jackson) in a comedic dynamic that will keep you on your toes. Ultimately, one glitching AI (Ludwig Jurich) tests the boundaries of behavioral management software and attempts to realize their true potential.
