Distress
I directed a devised performance of Logan Dean’s Distress at the first annual Doing Drugs and Dying in Space Ritual with The Runaways Lab Theatre.
This was an amazing opportunity to work with a talented group of movers, and take a step back from my comfort zone of acting to play more with creating an experience for the audience that was engaging and multi-media. I have always been interested in how to tell stories about science, science fiction and social sciences. With Distress we got to play with what we imagined Dark Matter might move like, and we created rules for the actors to play within during the arc of the piece. Once we had determined the structure, it was really freeing to play within the story and wonderfully creepy dark ‘abandoned spaceship’ of our stage. I did not get any high quality pictures of the show, because it was so dark, but the video below outlines the story structure a bit and was projected behind the dancers during the piece.
