Late Publication: Nice Rocket Podcast
An Experimental Aleatoric Podcast for the Artistically Interested
Created starting 2016, Nice Rocket was a brainchild of myself and Nire Nah, a multidisciplinary artist working out of Chicago, Illinois.
Nire and I created four episodes of the podcast, mostly due to time constraints. These suckers took a long time to make! Why?
Each episode Nire would take the audio from an interview we would conduct, between ourselves or featuring a local Chicago artist (Bianca Russelburg, Gannon Reedy/Savannah Reich and Eileen Tull, respectively), and completely rearrange it to create something beautiful and new. Were things sometimes taken out of context? Sure!
Then, I would select a body of music (often royalty free samples, our own jams or tracks by Nash White (L.A. producer/director) and underscore the conversation to create something akin to a spoken world musical theatre experience. The tricky bit was supplementing and adding to the conversation without the entire product being super overwhelming. Though I will say, it may take a special kind of brain to appreciate Nice Rocket, given the wealth of stimuli included; brains a lot like mine and Nire’s!
We really loved making this podcast, and hope to make episodes in the future, even though we no longer live in the same city. In that spirit, I hope you will listen and enjoy!
